HCM Series Thermopad

SpaceNXTTM HCM Series offers a selection of high reliability temperature variable attenuators for next generation commercial space applications. The new HCM Thermopad® Series is tested to meet the space orbit environmental criteria and is offered in a high volume solution that leverage the Smiths Interconnect space heritage to improve reliability and performance over a QPL or COTS product.

The Smiths Interconnect’s patented Thermopad® attenuator is a totally passive, surface mountable temperature variable attenuator that compensates for gain-variation over temperature. It requires no bias or control voltages and does not generate distortion. The Thermopad® can be used in place of a standard chip attenuator to combine level setting or buffering and temperature compensation in a single chip design. This reduces the component count, whilst increasing reliability and lowering costs.

SpaceNXT™ HCM Thermopad® is a cost effective series that can be purchased from the standard product price list without additional charges for flight testing.  It offers 100% flight product testing to Group A for mission assurance.  Options for group B and C testing are also available to further and completely qualify the product batch.

The series operates DC to 18 GHz. Terminal types are available in planar version for the lowest cost option and in triple wrapped series which gives the best visibility for inspection of the solder attachment. Products are delivered on standard tape and reel packaging to seamlessly integrate the customer’s pick and place equipment and ensure an easy installation.

SpaceNXT™ is the initiative newly introduced by Smiths Interconnect that entails the creation of a full range of higher reliability products for next generation space applications that are readily available to the market. The SpaceNXT™ product portfolio provides our customers a combination of highly reliable technology and lower cost of ownership.
